Highway 1 between Carmel and Cambria — slides, vistas, and nights that book out.

April–June (wildflowers, some fog) and September–October (clearest). Winter can close the highway. Summer fog is a feature, not a bug, on the water.

Fly SFO or SJC and drive. Do not assume Highway 1 is fully open — check Caltrans the morning you roll. A compact car is enough; the road is the point.
