The busiest U.S. national park, still worth it if you leave the main drag at dawn.

October for color (book early). April–May for waterfalls and fewer crowds than summer. Summer is family-peak. Winter is quiet on the Tennessee side, icy on the high roads.

Fly TYS or AVL. A car is required. Cades Cove and Newfound Gap Road are the classic loop; parking fills. Check NPS road status in winter.
